“My favorite baby shower game is the Don’t Say Baby game. It’s fun to try and not say the word baby the entire time and steal other’s pins who do say the word. You will come up with unique ways to talk about the baby, that’s for sure!”

“Baby shower games are so fun. The last shower I went to had a game that was such a hit. We were all laughing so hard we were crying! We divided into 2 teams and had a relay race. You had to put a balloon under their shirt (like a baby belly) and a ping pong ball between your knees. Then, you had to waddle across the room to drop the ping pong ball into a mason jar. It was called Tinkle in the Pot. And oh gosh….do I remember having to hurry and try to waddle to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night when I was pregnant with my son! It was seriously so fun and absolutely hilarious!“

“ I love a beautiful baby shower — it’s so special to celebrate a new life into the world. I’ve been to lots of baby showers and I’ve witnessed lots of baby shower games! There are many great ideas out there. Games are a terrific way to entertain guests and break the ice if all the guests don’t know each other. One of my favorites is the nursery rhyme printable game!“

“Oh goodness, I’ve been to plenty of baby showers! I have lots of favorite games, can’t pick just one! I love the memory game. Where they pass around a basket full of baby stuff and then you have to remember what they are and write down as many items as you can. Another oldie but a goodie is the “Measure Mommy’s Belly” game where you use toilet paper to guesstimate how big around you think mommy’s belly is. One that they played at MY baby shower that I thought was so funny was picking a few out of the crowd to see who could drink the milk from the baby bottle the fastest! So many awesome memories!!“

Sweeten the Party with Baby Shower Candies

February 16, 2014 by Jenni 788 Comments

When it comes to creating perfect baby showers, it is all about the theme. Whether you decide to throw a vintage shower, Hawaiian shower, or a game-filled shower, there is nothing better than simply going overboard with the theme. From the invitations to the decorations, the favors to the food, every shower theme needs to be rocked to the extreme.

One unique theme that can be played to the fullest is the candy theme. Since babies are so sweet, why not go all out and create the sweetest baby shower you can? There are so many fun ways to be clever with baby shower candy ideas. Candy names lend themselves to every aspect of the party for the mom-to-be.

Candi-licious Mom-to-Be Shower Fun

Since I have given so many baby showers over the years, I am always on the hunt for new ideas. A friend of mine told me she did not want to have a pink or blue shower, but she wanted something fun. To create a theme, I asked my six year old what was the most fun place she had ever been. She told me the candy store, so that was the theme I created. With the help of my daughter, I was able to create a candi-licious special party from the invitation to the cake.

Junior Mints in the Mail

With my daughter, we looked at all of the different types of candy and the brands. We needed to start with the invitations and work from there. I did not want to send a typical card – I wanted to send candy. I also wanted to stay away from the cliche “here she-is” play on the Hershey bars. My friend was having a boy, so I immediately thought of Junior Mints. I looked into whether or not I could mail them and the post office said I could. So, I created a sticker that I used to cover “Mints” and a sticker with the actual invite on the back. We did not know what my friend was going to name her baby, so we decided to celebrate the eventual coming of “Junior”.

Balancing the Menu

When it came to the cake (my favorite part), I decided against a traditional cake and went with a dessert bar instead. I had ice cream, unfrosted cupcakes, and rice krispie treats. Then, I had jars filled with favorite candy toppings including M&M’s (all in shades of blue), chocolate chips, sprinkles, gummy bears, as well as tubs of frosting to decorate the cupcakes and rice krispie treats. The candies were inside of individual baskets made from gum wrappers, juice pouches, and other recycled candy containers. It was certainly colorful.

Insanely Sweet Dessert Bar

Since the desserts and everything else about the party was insanely sweet, I tried to keep the actual food somewhat plain, if not a bit salty. I had a big watermelon cut in the shape of a gigantic Peep and filled with fruit. I also had simple little sandwiches, cucumber roulades, and some other treats. Beverages were simple: water flavored with cucumber, hot tea, coffee, and iced tea. I also had little cartons of milk to go with the dessert bar. The cartons were decorated with a picture of the ultrasound and the words “Have you seen me?” emblazoned on the side.

Candy-Filled Games

I do not usually have games at my baby showers because I think they detract from the talking time, but I could not pass up some candy games. We tested our knowledge coming up with candy for every letter of the alphabet, with the winners getting Sugar Babies. We also had a name that melted candy in the diaper game, which I find to be a repulsive idea – but quite fun. The prize for that game was a basket full of the chocolates I used in the diapers. I also bought extremely long licorice ropes and we predicted how much licorice she would need to go around her belly. Everyone was a winner and got to eat their licorice rope. This theme is truly the best for baby shower candy ideas.

Wrapping Presents with Personality

I always ask my guests to wrap their presents in a certain way or to include a special gift that ties in with the theme. This time, I asked them to include their favorite candy inside of the gift. It was fun to watch my friend open her presents and see what the giver loved to eat as a child or even still as an adult. It also made for fun stories, especially when friends included vintage candy like wax bottles, Charleston Chews, and circus peanuts.

Dress-Up Fun

The last event of the baby shower was to decorate the mom-to-be in the prettiest bling we could find. I had another basket full of wearable candy, from Ring pops, licorice ropes, powder candy, candy necklaces, candy undies, and more. This was the most surprising event of the paper and our mom-to-be was not too sure of the whole thing, but by the time the girls were finished with her, they went to town on each other. By the time we were finished, nearly everyone had a make-shift candy tiara, wax lips (or candy cigarettes), rings on every finger, several red belts, snakes wrapped around their arms, and some even wore candy panties on their heads.
