Spring Cleaning Begins and Easy Dinner Ideas with On-Cor + Spring Prize Pack GIVEAWAY!

March 30, 2018 by Jenni 618 Comments

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of On-Cor. The opinions and text are all mine.

on-cor6

Usually fall is my favorite time of year, but I’m soooo looking forward to Spring right now! It’s sooooo close! It’s that perfect time of year to get the home all fresh and clutter free! Nothing feels better than a clean (although still lived in!), and organized house!

This weekend kicks off our Spring Break and we’re tackling the beginning of our Spring Cleaning checklist! I’ve started purging cabinets and getting rid of the stuff we never use. The kitchen is always the first place I start spring cleaning, because it’s where we spend the majority of our time. Well, at least that’s where I spend the majority of MY time. 😉

on-cor1

Today while we all have our lists to tackle, dinnertime is made easy with our favorite On-Cor Gravy and Sliced White Meat Turkey! Their mission is simple – to offer quality, multi-serve entrées that everyone loves! YAY! Easy dinner on a day when “easy” is needed!

on-cor7

So, while momma is busy purging the cabinets, Eli’s job is to dust with his super cute bumble bee microfiber duster!

My best tip when Spring Cleaning is to write down a checklist for all the jobs in each room. If you aren’t sure where to start, you can find ALL kinds of awesome spring cleaning checklists online or on Pinterest! Set a timer to work in short bursts, no more than 15 minutes per task! You can get much more done this way!! I like to start at the top of the room and work my way down, and from left to right. Tackle the harder jobs first, so they get done and out of the way!

on-cor3

This is why I love to have easy dinner ideas on hand for days like this – so I don’t get too sidetracked cooking a giant meal and NO cleaning gets done! Life’s demanding enough. Dinner shouldn’t be. On-Cor does the prep work, so you can take care of other to-do’s that need to-doing.

Gather your spring cleaning supplies! Mine is pretty simple. I stick to all natural cleaners, including baking soda and vinegar along with other plant based products. Get the family involved. Give everyone their jobs, and crank up some fun music!

If you need easy dinner ideas during your Spring Cleaning this week….just head to the freezer aisle of Walmart or check out the store locator at www.on-cor.com to pick up one of On-Cor’s entrées.

on-cor2

We opted for the On-Cor Gravy and Sliced White Meat Turkey this week because I knew I’d be starting my cleaning list and would need something easy! Paired with mashed potatoes and green beans, for the WIN!! A number of entrées now have 20 percent more meat, including Salisbury Steak, Sliced Turkey and Char-Broiled Patties.

Ready for a GIVEAWAY?!

One lucky reader will win a Spring On-Cor Prize Pack that will include…

  • (1) Coupon Valid for One Free On-Cor Entrée (1) Organizational Glass Containers, (1) Scrub Brush, (1) Kids Cleaning Set, (1) Set of 4 Kitchen Towels, (1) Sink Caddy (ARV: $200)

Giveaway is open to US residents, age 18 and older. Please use the Rafflecopter form below to enter. Giveaway ends 3/23/18 at 11:59pm EST. Good luck!

on-cor-1

Momming is hard. Right? Between kids, work, house work, and all the other extras – not much time is left. One thing we can’t just move from our to-do list over to the next day is DINNER. Family’s gotta eat. Everyday. Ugh!

Cereal for dinner only works every so often. Although, that would be fine with me most nights! When the days are overly hectic, or when the husband works later than normal — I’m the queen of pulling something from the freezer!

Everybody loves easy, and simple! Especially moms! And especially when it comes to food! That’s kinda the mission behind On-Cor! To offer quality, multi-serve entrées that everyone loves. They get that moms need convenience, and their packaging shows it!

We always have quick and easy things in the freezer for those crazy busy times. Something like the On-Cor family-friendly entrées make those nights pretty simple and worry free for me! Just pop it in the oven, throw a side on the stove top and my stove is doing all the work for me!

Now, I can get to that pile of clean clothes that are mounded up on the kitchen table! Take a few minutes and get Eli’s outfit laid out for the next morning, and get his backpack ready! Go through his flashcards with him. Catch up with husband to see how his day was.

on-cor-1-package

They’ve been around forever so they’ve got the family favorite meals down to a science! We love the 6 Breaded Chicken Parmagiana Patties with Tomato Sauce. I always boil a pot of spaghetti and serve it with garlic bread and a salad! Yum!! Ready to heat and serve. Great solution for when you’re having “one of those nights.”

There’s NO monosodium glutamate (MSG) added to any of the entrées. If you’re looking for more info on each product, including ingredient lists…visit www.On-Cor.com.

on-cor-2

For your next family meal, head to the freezer aisle of Walmart or check out the store locator at www.on-cor.com to pick up one of On-Cor’s entrées.

Several of the entrées now have 20% more meat, including the Salisbury Steak, Sliced Turkey, and the Char-Broiled Patties. The Penne Pasta & Meatballs with Tomato Sauce entrée now has 25% more meat! You’ll find 100% real cheese now in the Macaroni & Cheese entrée and the “Selects” Lasagna with Meat Sauce uses REAL mozzarella cheese.

Are you ready for a GIVEAWAY!?!

(ARV: $200)

On-Cor is being super generous and offering one of my lucky readers a beautiful prize package filled with the following with a retail value of $200. Please use the Rafflecopter form below to enter! US residents age 18+ are eligible to win. Giveaway ends at 11:59pm EST on 11/15/2017. Winner will be drawn at random, and will be notified via email. Good luck!!

How Dogs Help Us Cope with Grief

Have you ever noticed how pets can help us through many grieving moments? Recently I shared how our boxer Izzy passed over the Rainbow Bridge. I’m not gonna lie. That was rough, for our entire family. It’s been almost a month and a half – and I still keep her collar hanging where I can see it all the time.

girls1

Our other furbaby, Pepper, mourned as well. Her and Izzy were besties. Sisters. Well, not biological sisters….but sisters from another mister.

There’s just something about how a dog loves their human. It surpasses any words that could be spoken…the feeling of love that they give you. They need you, yet YOU need them. It’s the perfect relationship!

I recently partnered with Milk-Bone® to share and start a conversation with YOU about how our dogs are “more”. For me…I love that they know when we’re hurting…and they comfort us.  They’re patient. Kind. They’re just “more”. They snuggle more. Smile more. Play more. Live more. And bring more love into all of our hearts! Especially when we’re grieving the loss of something or someone. Izzy – in our case.

Screen Shot 2017-11-09 at 12.49.55 AM

I used this awesome Milk-Bone® Gifmaker to make a super cute Gif of Pepper, and Izzy together! It’s just so precious!! It wouldn’t let me embed the gif into my blog post, but I took this screen shot. I love it! You can see the actual gif that I made here!

I’d love to see YOUR gifs using the free Gifmaker — and please share them with us! Either on the Milk-Bone social channels below, or on our Sweet Pennies from Heaven social channels!!!

Align Jr. for Digestive Health This Summer

May 31, 2017 by Jenni 230 Comments

This post was sponsored by Align as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

align jr

Summer is here and we have lots of activities planned for the family! Along with summer, comes a few routine changes. We sleep in a little longer, stay up later, and of course we eat more than we should.

These kinds of changes in routine can affect our kids’ bellies and natural balance of good bacteria. Since Eli has tummy trouble anyway, I like to supplement his digestive system with a good probiotic supplement like Align Jr.

Grab This Align Jr. coupon to save!

align jr 2

What are probiotics?

These are good bacteria that provide healthy benefits and are crucial for our vital bodily functions – including healthy digestion!

Often times we don’t get enough “good” bacteria in our gut through foods so using a probiotic supplement is your best bet. After all, a healthy gut is a HAPPY gut…right?!

We prefer Align because it’s the #1 recommended probiotic brand‡ by doctors and gastroenterologists. The Align Jr. comes in yummy tasting chewables for kids age 6-12 years old!

These are so easy to add to his routine each day! He takes them with his multivitamin each morning, and boom! He’s good to go!

Traveling often causes digestive issues and thankfully, these are so easy to just pop in your suitcase or travel bags (or even your purse!) to have on the go!

Some other really great and healthy digestion tips for your kiddos, in addition to taking Align Jr…

  • Make sure they drink plenty of water
  • Make sure they’re active this summer
  • Include a portion of fresh fruits and veggies with each meal. Hide these in smoothies or shakes if you need to! 😉

5 Appetizer Recipes for Your Next Party or Game Day!

February 7, 2016 by Jenni 104 Comments

welcome

I’m so happy that you asked for these 5 appetizer recipes and I really think that your family and friends will love them! I know we certainly do.

I’m going to add in a bonus for you at the end, just in case you’re needing a crazy awesome dessert too!

bacon wrapped parmesan crackers

1 – Bacon Wrapped Parmesan Crackers

Oh. My. Word. The plate will be empty before you can even fill it up. These are always gone within minutes!

Ingredients
  • buttery crackers, we used Ritz
  • package of thin sliced bacon
  • parmesan cheese
Instructions
  1. Lay crackers out on a baking rack that has slits in it, to allow bacon grease to drip. We used a broiler pan. You can use a cooling rack on top of a regular cookie sheet if needed. Just make sure the grease has something to drip on while in the oven.
  2. Dump a teaspoon of parmesan cheese over each cracker. Some will fall off, that’s okay.
  3. Slice bacon in half, right down the middle of the package.
  4. Peel off a slice of bacon, then carefully pick up a cracker making sure not to lose too much cheese off the top. Just lay the bacon across the top of the cheese and wrap each end around the backside of the cracker. The ends of the bacon should meet. Just snugly press the ends together and then lay back down on the baking sheet.
  5. Bake in a 250 degree pre-heated oven, for 2 hours. Take a peek around 1 hour and 45 minutes though to see if they’re done. Depending on how thin the bacon is, they could be done a little sooner.
  6. ***DO NOT use thick sliced bacon. The end result is still okay, but they turn out more chewy than crisp.

caprese-bites-1

2 – Caprese Bites

Seriously, these are a mouthful of deliciousness. Healthy on one hand, yeah…but even these are husband approved.

Ingredients:

  • fresh mozzarella cheese, cubed
  • fresh basil leaves
  • cherry tomatoes
  • toasted baguette, sliced
  • balsamic vinaigrette or vinegar (whichever you like)
  • toothpicks

Directions:

  • Use day old crusty bread, if you have some on hand. Otherwise, toast a french baguette or something similar and slice. Then cut each slice in half or in 1/4 so they’re actually “bite size”.
  • Fold a basil leaf and place on top of the bread.
  • Then add a chunk of fresh mozzarella (big enough to sit nicely on the leaf/bread).
  • Add a cherry tomato on top.
  • Skewer a wooden toothpick through to hold together.
  • Drizzle a bit with some balsamic vinegar.
  • Then INHALE these babies!!

pecan bacon and ranch cheeseball recipe

3 – Pecan Bacon and Ranch Cheeseball

Okay, so everyone loves a good cheeseball. You can easily dress up your ordinary cheeseball with some pecans, bacon, and ranch! Mmmm.

Ingredients
  • 2 blocks of cream cheese, 8 oz. each softened
  • 2 cups finely shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 package of Hidden Valley ranch dip mix * (I recommend using about half the package, giving a taste from the bowl and then decide if you want to add the rest. It can be on the salty side if you use the whole package – considering there’s also bacon and pecans in the recipe.)
  • 6 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 3-4 green onions, sliced thinly
  • 2 oz. pecan chips (or crushed pecans)
Instructions
  1. Fry bacon until crispy, then lay on papertowel to drain grease. Crumble the bacon, then set aside.
  2. Beat cream cheese in a stand mixer or with a handmixer in a large mixing bowl until smooth.
  3. Add shredded cheese and the ranch mix, and mix until completely combined.
  4. Add the crumbled bacon and green onions, mix until completely combined.
  5. Scoop mixture into the center of a piece of plastic wrap. Wrap into a ball shape. You can also line a small bowl with a large piece of plastic wrap, then scoop mixture into the bowl – wrapping the ends up at the top. I’ve done this pictured here. Place in the freezer long enough to firm up.
  6. Pour pecan chips into a large bowl. After mixture is firm, remove the plastic wrap and begin pressing the pecans onto the surface of the cheeseball. Do this over the bowl, so any pieces fall back into the bowl. Easier cleanup. 😉
  7. Serve with crackers!

grape jelly and bbq sauce meatballs

4 – Grape Jelly and BBQ Sauce Meatballs

If you loved our other recipe for the Grape Jelly and BBQ Sauce Little Smokies, then you’ll love these meatballs too! These are sooo sooooooo good!!

Ingredients
  • Grape Jelly 18-20 oz. bottle
  • BBQ Sauce (any variety) 18 oz. bottle
  • 28 oz. frozen meatballs (we use Farm Rich), approx. 50+ meatballs
Instructions
  1. Pour grape jelly and BBQ sauce into slow cooker and stir until combined.
  2. Pour bag of frozen meatballs in and mix until all meatballs are coated.
  3. Cook on high in slow cooker for 3-4 hours.
  4. *Optional – Turn slow cooker down to the warm setting for the last hour to allow the sauce to thicken.

spicy southwest dip and chips

5 – Spicy Southwest Dip

It’s the perfect dip for anyone that loves a bit of spicy! The chips in this recipe are homemade as well, but you can totally just use store bought!

Ingredients

Tortilla Seasoning:

  • 1 Tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 Tsp. taco seasoning
  • 1 Tsp. ranch seasoning
  • ¼ Tsp. Salt
  • ¼ Tsp. Cayenne Pepper (optional)

Southwest Dip

  • 1 C. Chopped tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 C. shredded taco cheese
  • 1 C. Sour Cream
  • 4 oz. Cream Cheese
  • 1 T. Taco Seasoning
  • 1 Tsp. Cayenne Pepper (optional)
Instructions
  1. Tortillas (any flour tortillas cut into triangles)
  2. 2 inches of oil over medium heat.
  3. **Hint oil is ready when one droplet of water from your finger “dances” on the top of the oil**
  4. Fry each triangle for 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  5. Remove from pan and sprinkle seasoning on immediately to both sides.
  6. Place on paper towel to soak up extra oil.

For Dip:

  1. Fold together until well blended.

This Reese's Peanut Butter Bark recipe is a fun twist on an old family classic holiday recipe. So easy and so delicious...only using 4 ingredients! It's the perfect no bake holiday recipe! www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com

BONUS DESSERT RECIPE:

Reese’s Peanut Butter Bark

Guys. Seriously. This recipe is SO easy, I can even make it with my eyes closed. It gets gobbled up and I always have to make more than one batch. It literally takes just minutes to make it, and a little time for it to firm up in the fridge before you break it up and serve it! ENJOY!!!

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Bark Ingredients:

  • 11.5 oz bag of Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Chips
  • 10 oz bag of Reese’s Peanut Butter Chips
  • 12 oz bag of Reese’s Miniatures Peanut Butter Cups

Instructions:

  1. Begin by unwrapping Reese’s Miniatures and chopping into chunks. Set aside for later.
  2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment or wax paper.
  3. Pour chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl, and melt in microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds on medium power. Stir. Continue microwaving in 15 second intervals, on medium and stirring until thoroughly melted.
  4. Pour melted chocolate onto parchment paper and spread into a thin layer.
  5. Pour peanut butter chips into a microwave safe bowl, and melt in microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds on medium power level. Stir. Continue microwaving in 15 second intervals, on medium power level and stirring until thoroghly melted. About halfway through melting, add 1 tablespoon of shortening to thin out the texture.
  6. Immediately spoon dollops of the melted peanut butter chips onto the chocolate. Use as much or as little as you like, depending on your preference. You may have some melted peanut butter left over.
  7. Using a skewer, toothpick, or knife, begin marbling the mixture using a circular or swirling motion until you get the desired effect.
  8. Place chopped Reese’s Miniatures on top and press into the mixture, using your hand.
  9. Place the baking sheet into the fridge to allow the bark to chill for 1-2 hours or overnight. Once it’s set, break into large chunks and serve! Store leftovers in an airtight container.

These pumpkin chocolate chip cookies are so light and cakey! Perfect for any fall occasion, it's an especially delicious and easy Thanksgiving cookie idea! www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

Thanksgiving is this week and I’m giving pumpkin one last “hoo-rah” for season with these cakey pumpkin chocolate chip cookies! I have to scoot the pumpkin over to make room for another fun seasonal flavor of mine……..peppermint! If you missed our chocolate covered peppermint truffles recipe, you’ll be sorry! DIVINE ya’ll!

These cookies are super light and cakey…just the way I like’em! This recipe makes a lot of cookies. You can make a big batch to share (or keep for yourself, no judging here!) or freeze part of the dough to make some for later!

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 (29-ounce) can pure pumpkin
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 tablespoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 6 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 5 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 (12-ounce) bag semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.  Prepare your pan by lining it with parchment paper, baking mat or spraying with non-stick spray.  I used a whoopie pie pan for our big cookies!
  2. In a bowl, mix sugar, pumpkin, melted butter and vanilla.  Once smooth, add the eggs and beat for a few minutes.
  3. In a small second bowl, combine the pumpkin pie spice, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well.
  5. Slowly add in the flour, two cups at a time mixing well.  Add the chocolate chips and combine well.
  6. Add a spoonful of the cookie dough onto your baking sheet two inches apart.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes and transfer to a cooling rack to cool.

What are your kids dressing up as for Halloween?

Can you believe?! It’s already time to put away the bathing suits and drag out the flannel, people! Brrrr! It’s been downright COLD up in he-ah, the last couple of weeks. Halloween is right around the corner! Have your kids already told you what they wanna be? Dressing up for Halloween is always so much fun. I loved it as a kid and I still do – even as an adult. Here’s what some of my mom friends are up to for Halloween!

LindsayHeadShot3Border-300x300

The entire family is dressing up as Star Wars characters! I haven’t dressed up for Halloween in years but we found the BEST costumes for all of us at Halloween Express and I just had to get them. The kids are so obsessed with Star Wars right now that we’re sort of buried in it – books, movies, puzzles, toys. So this was perfect. I can’t wait to answer the door this year!

Jenni-Eaves1-213x300

I never dress up myself. I’m so boring. haha! The kiddo will be going as Buzz Lightyear. He’s totally obsessed with him. He loves trick or treating and I think he’ll be tickled when he gets to wear his costume to school!

Amanda-626x1024

We are so excited about Halloween! Joshua is going to be a Ghostbuster. He has been vacuuming up bad guys ever since his costume has come in! I will be dressing up too. I’m going all 1920’s and becoming a flapper. Complete with blonde hair. 🙂

– Amanda is the mom to Joshua and owns It’s a Fabulous Life. If you are looking for a one stop place for all things mom, It’s a Fabulous Life is it! • blue chocolate candy melt
  • milk chocolate candy melt
  • microwave safe bowl
  • spoon
  • brown sugar
  • prepared fondant – in white and colors of your choice for flip flops (you can buy fondant ready to use in a variety of colors)
  • gel food coloring in bright colors to make beach ball
  • vanilla
  • small paint brush
  • small bowls

Directions:

Melt the blue chocolate candy melt according to package instructions.  I usually work with a half package to a time which will do 6 cupcakes give or take.  If you melt all the candy at once you risk it getting hard before you finish covering the cupcakes.

Spread the blue candy melt across half of each cupcake with a spoon.  I used the back side of the spoon to lift the chocolate to create the look of waves.

Set the cupcakes aside to allow the candy to harden.

While you wait, begin shaping the fondant into flip flops.  This is really easy – just think grown up Playdough!  It’s easiest to roll them into little balls and then flatten them to create the flip flop shape.  I then made little strap details in contrasting colors.

To make the beach balls, roll the white fondant into little balls.  They can really be any size you choose.  I colored them using a paint brush and “food coloring paint”.  To make food coloring paint, mix a small amount of gel food coloring with vanilla.  You don’t need much vanilla and the paint will cover a lot of area so you won’t need much of each color.  Make sure the color is well blended and use a small paint brush to decorate the fondant.  Use several colors to paint the stripes on the balls.  Allow each color some time to dry before adding the next.

Once the blue candy melt has hardened, melt the milk chocolate melt according to directions.

Spread the milk chocolate on the opposite side of the cupcake and sprinkle the brown sugar on while the chocolate is still melted.  The chocolate does not have to be perfectly smooth but should not have peaks like the blue.  Set the cupcakes aside to let the milk chocolate harden.

Place the beach balls and flip flops on each cupcake.  You can use a small amount of melted chocolate to hold them into place if necessary.

DESPICABLE ME - Chocolate MINION Pops

DESPICABLE ME – Chocolate MINION Pops

July 11, 2014 by 193 Comments

Last week we shared with you a fun and simple DESPICABLE ME -DIY Tic Tac Toe  game and in keeping with that theme, this week we have more adorable minions in the form of DESPICABLE ME – Chocolate MINION Pops!  We know we all love minions and who doesn’t love chocolate?!?  These two favorites become the perfect pair in this fun DESPICABLE ME treat.

DESPICABLE ME - Chocolate MINION Pops

DESPICABLE ME – Chocolate MINION Pops

Supplies and Ingredients:

  • plastic spoons – I used purple but you could use yellow, blue, or orange
  • yellow candy melt
  • blue candy melt
  • white chocolate
  • black gel food coloring
  • vanilla
  • small paint brush
  • microwave safe bowls
  • wax paper

Instruction:

Step 1

Begin by heating the blue candy melt in a microwave safe bowl for 30 seconds, stir and heat an additional 30 seconds or until candy melt is completely melted and smooth.

Carefully dip and coat each plastic spoon with the blue candy melt and place on wax paper to dry.  Try to smooth the candy melt as much as possible so that it is not lumpy when dry.3

DESPICABLE ME - Chocolate MINION Pops

Step 2

When blue candy melt has completely cooled and become hard, melt the yellow candy melt using the same method.

Coat 2/3 of the spoon with the yellow candy melt, again trying to leave it as smooth as possible.  Stand the spoons in a shallow glass to allow the candy melt to harden.

Step 3

When the yellow candy melt is hard, melt a very small of white candy melt following the same instructions.

Using a spoon, add a small dot of white candy melt for eyes on each MINION Pop.  You can give some minions 1 eye and some 2.  Return the pops to the glass to let eyes harden.

Step 4

While the white candy melt hardens, mix a small amount of vanilla and black gel food coloring in a bowl.  You’ll need only a pea size amount of food coloring and less than 1/2 tsp of vanilla.  Stir together to create a food coloring “paint”.

Use your small paint brush to paint on the pupils of the eyes, the black goggle band, and the minion’s smile.  Let this “paint” dry completely before serving.

DESPICABLE ME - Chocolate MINION Pops

These DESPICABLE ME – Chocolate MINION Pops can stand in a glass or jar for serving or individually wrapped in mini bags for a giveaway treat at a party.  They are a perfect treat for a family game night with the DESPICABLE ME – DIY Tic Tac Toe board!

4th of July - Button Art American Flag

4th of July Crafts – Button Art American Flag

June 25, 2014 by 353 Comments

Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays to celebrate and I LOVE making 4th of July Crafts for decorating with!  I also love buttons and have a lot of fun coming up with ideas to use my many buttons, whether fancy buttons or just plain old shirt buttons.  This Button Art American Flag is created with plain blue, white, and red shirt buttons and I think it turned out really fun!

4th of July - Button Art American Flag

4th of July Crafts – Button Art American Flag

Supplies:

  • 8″ x 10″ white canvas
  • shirt buttons in red (about 100), white (about 100), and blue (about 50)
  • craft glue
  • picture frame (I used a frame for an 8″ x 10″ photo from the Dollar Store and removed the glass)

Instructions:

While I was pretty particular about making my flag and making sure I had 50 white spaces in my blue buttons for each star and the correct number of red and white stripes, you can certainly get creative and let this a fun easy flag.

Begin by sorting your buttons and laying them out on the canvas to plan exactly how you want to have them displayed.

Once you’ve sorted the buttons and decided on the layout, spread a thin layer of glue and begin placing your buttons.  I worked from the top left, adding the blue buttons first.  Spread the glue in small amounts so you can easily attach the buttons before the glue begins to dry.

After you have placed all of the blue buttons, add a strip of glue and begin attaching the red and white buttons in alternating rows.  I used buttons that were all the same size and color but you could do varying shades and sizes of red or white to give added texture.

Allow the craft glue to dry completely.  It should dry clear leaving you only able to see the buttons and canvas.

Once the glue is completely dry, insert the canvas into a photo frame for display.  Not only is a great 4th of July Crafts project but you can use this for patriotic decor year around!  What kinds of 4th of July Crafts do you make?

Happy Mother’s Day {Remembering My Sweet Mommy Today}

May 8, 2011 by Jenni 59 Comments

Just wanted to wish every mother out there a Happy Mother’s Day today!  Out of all the jobs in this world, being a Mother is the most important and most rewarding one of all.

I’m remembering my sweet mom today and wishing more than anything that I could give her that annual call on Mother’s Day and say, “So mom, which kind of flower do you want this year?”  I’d always stop and pick her up some kind of hanging basket…usually a fern or a bouganvilla (sp??) along with a couple of different Mother’s Day Cards.  I always got her a sappy one and a funny one :).

Blessings today~

Nov. 22 | A Day My Family Will Never Forget

November 22, 2010 by Jenni 1,076 Comments

Today, Nov 22 is absolutely a day that my family will never forget.  You see, 3 years ago today my mother went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  You know the phrase, “they lost their battle to cancer”?  Well, I LOATHE that phrase!  If you’re speaking of a person who was born again and washed in the blood then that person did not LOSE the battle.  They won the biggest prize in all of creation.

Sally Mae Polly was the smartest, most beautiful woman inside and out.  Yes, she had her faults just as any other person but in my eyes, she was as close to perfection as any woman, wife, mother, and friend could be.  She loved and was loyal to the bone.  She loved her God and served Him with all of her heart…even until her dying day.  She loved her husband and her children in the same way.  She taught us how to live, love, and laugh!

She was a small woman in stature but she was bigger than any other woman I knew in all other ways.  She loved any kind of craft and self taught herself most if not all of them.  She loved to sew, spin wool, weave that wool on her loom, crochet, knit, work with stained glass, paint, you name it…she mastered it.

She also loved to dance!  She didn’t do it very often but when she got the chance she loved to do that old timey dancing to bluegrass music.  Once while she was sick, (maybe only a week before she passed) she was spinning on the floor with her hands raised in the air.  My sister asked her what she was doing, and she replied, “I’m dancing for the Lord”.

At 8:23 am on this day 3 years ago she went home.  This day on that year actually happened to be Thanksgiving morning.  When she passed, as my dad prayed…he told the Lord, “when she comes before your Throne Father, ask her to dance”.  I’m sure she did.

So with a heavy heart today, I think of my mom and remember that we shouldn’t only be Thankful for what we have, but for who we have in our lives.

Blessings~

Our First “DIY” Project UPDATE 5/26

May 26, 2010 by Jenni 46 Comments

First, let me say that the roof isn’t done on our patio yet.  We are going to use some clear corrugated product that works like the fiberglass roofing but it’s not actually fiberglass that we’re going to use.  It’s a vinyl material that is supposed to be better.  We’ll see how that works out!

The part that we are doing ourselves is just the floor part of the patio.  As you can see by the photos, there is no floor.  There was a couple of days ago but we tore up all the brick and block that was there and we will be reusing those to create a new floor.  It’s going to be alot longer and wider.  Actually it’s going to be the same size as the roof so we’ll have quite a bit of space to entertain and enjoy.

Some of this area that is going to be part of the floor was a rock bed and so we’ve been having to dig up all those rocks and we’ve ran into a TON of big roots!!  So, things haven’t been going as easy as we’d hoped it would.

These photos were taken after the patio flooring was taken up (I know I should have taken photos of before) and I’ll post more pictures as the process moves along.  We’ll be having tiny crushed gravel delivered in the next day or so I hope and we will be using that as the foundation that the bricks and patio blocks will be setting on.  I’m completely open to any and all tips or advice that you have to offer since this is our first time doing anything like this.  I’m hoping the weather stays pretty all week so we can continue to work while my husband is on vacation.  I hope you all enjoy your week too 🙂

Snowbound

February 16, 2010 by Jenni 24 Comments

Talk about Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!!!!!  We have about 8 or more inches of snow on top of the 4 inches we already had.  I believe we are supposed to get even more through the weekend!!  I personally think that all this snow is beautiful and invigorating!  Fresh and clean!  I can’t wait to get out and play in it.

I’m glad that I got all of my Sunday papers yesterday before we got snowed in.  Now, it’s time to get my coupon inserts out and start cutting away.  I love when it’s time to start looking at my sales ads and matching my coupons up with them to get all the BEST deals!  I’m just wondering if I’ll get the chance to go on this week’s SMART shopping extravaganza.  I might have to have my husband haul me to my favorite stores.  Lord knows I can’t drive on these snow and ice covered roads….eeeeek!

I am still trying to get my wits about me as far as this blog goes.  I have alot to learn and am still working on the “making it beautiful” part!  My plan is to start posting daily and weekly about the best deals from my favorite stores.  I want to incorporate all the links to sunday paper insert coupons and IP (internet printable) coupons to match up with those best deals.

I expect this blog to change it’s shape and form as I learn more and more.  Don’t be surprised if it looks totally different the next time you see it.

Blessings~

The beginning of my blogging journey

February 14, 2010 by Jenni 134 Comments

I am so excited to start this blog!!  My goal is to show others what I have learned about saving money!!  I have always been on the frugal side, even as a youngster.  When I got married, however, I then became the “woman of the house” and threw thriftiness out the window.  After we had our son, the thrifty side of me returned!  I never could quite get the hang of using coupons.  Generic was still always cheaper.  I also always thought I had to use all of my coupons and then I ended up spending more than if I hadn’t used coupons at all.

I attended a coupon class and did alot of research on my own and found what works!  The key is to use coupons only on items that are already on sale.  Alot of times you can get groceries and drugstore items really really cheap or even FREE!  My favorite stores to shop at are Kroger, CVS, and Walgreens.  The last few months we have saved alot of money and our cabinets, fridge, and freezer are slap dab full.  My husband laughs and says it looks like a mini grocery store!

Several of my family members have started couponing and smart shopping over the past month.  They got sick and tired of me telling them what all I was getting for really cheap or FREE and they figured they’d have to see what this was all about.  Now, they are hooked!  A few times, 3 of us loaded up in my neice’s mini van and headed out for a SMART shopping extravaganza!  We had so many groceries between the 3 of us that when we opened the back hatch of the van, gallons of milk and cans of Pillsbury biscuits came pouring out!!!

Once again, I am very excited about this blog!  I am going to keep sharing things that I have learned in hopes that others can benefit.  Jobs are scarce and I know that families are struggling in my own little town as well as families all around this nation.

Blessings~
