You wanna know how to decorate the rim of a glass with sprinkles. It’s wayyyy easy to do, and is such a cute idea for anytime. So because it’s especially fun for parties, here’s how you do it.

What you Need:

  • Your favorite glasses or cups
  • chocolate chips
  • sprinkles

Instructions:

1. Pour chocolate chips into a small microwave safe bowl. One that is not too big, but large enough for the rim of your glass to reach into.

2. Melt chocolate chips according to package directions. How many chocolate chips you use varies according to how many glasses you want to decorate. You should be able to dip a few to several cups – using 1/4 to 1/2 cup of chocolate chips.

6. Set upright on the counter until the chocolate has dried and the sprinkles are set.

7. After the sprinkles are set, fill the glasses with your yummy chocolate milk or whatever you’re wanting to drink, and enjoy!

Coffee Filter Wreath Tutorial - DIY Craft www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com

Coffee Filter Wreath Tutorial – Easy Home Decor Craft

February 4, 2016 by Jenni 1,648 Comments

coffee filter wreath

Valentine’s Day Coffee Filter Wreath

Ever wanted to try your hand at making a coffee filter wreath? I made this one last year, around Valentine’s Day. I’m not gonna lie. Valentine’s Day is one holiday that I don’t really decorate the house for too much. I do have a few favorite Valentine’s Day recipes, though. We tend to celebrate more with food than decor for Valentine’s Day, however, this sweet coffee filter wreath adds a touch of “love” to our front door!

Aside from all the love, romance, flowers, and chocolate….we’re celebrating because SPRING is on the way! Yes, I know more cold and snow is on the way but I’m dreaming of green grass and flowers popping up from the ground.

This coffee filter wreath is seriously SO easy to make, and so frugal. I found ALL kinds of them on Pinterest, and honestly there are SO many different colors and some of them are downright fancy schmancy looking! This was my first one and I’m very happy with how it turned out.

how to dye coffee filters for crafts

Before you get started though, you need to decide what color you want your wreath to be. Here’s my How to Dye Coffee Filters for Crafts tutorial. Make sure to visit that link, it also explains how to quickly DRY your dyed filters so you can get on with your projects without having to wait.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 200-300 dyed coffee filters in colors you choose (you can use more, the more you use the fuller the wreath will be)
  • 14″ styrofoam wreath
  • plenty of stick pins (200-300) or a hot glue gun
  • Decorative ribbon to hang your wreath

Now that you have all your goodies ready to go, pick a seat (preferably in front of the TV watching your favorite show!) and get to work. It seems tedious, but honestly – the time goes by pretty fast and your wreath will be done before you know it!

coffee filter wreath tutorial

Instructions:

Take each coffee filter and fold it in half, then fold it in half again – like shown above. Now you should have a triangular funnel shape. Holding the tip with your fingers, kind of scrunch and fluff up the other end….like you scrunch your hair?! That’s about the only way I can explain it, haha!! The end result of all this scrunching and fluffing is a fuller looking wreath.

Remember in Legally Blonde – “Bend & Snap”?
Okay, now think “Scrunch & Fluff”

Say this each time you pick up a new filter. Just for fun! 😉

coffee filter wreath tutorial

After you get all of your filters scrunched and fluffed, it’s time to start attaching them to your wreath. Beginning on the inside of the wreath, attach each filter by the tip using a stick pin or glue gun. Work your way around the inner section of the wreath until you have a row finished. Then start a new row, and keep going until you’ve made 3-4 rows from the inside to the outside.

Don’t worry about attaching filters to the backside of the wreath, as it will be laying against the wall or door. If you notice holes here and there, you can fill them in as needed.

coffee filter wreath tutorial

Now, I’m so excited with how my coffee filter wreath turned out – I’m thinking of new colors to use for different holidays and seasons! They’re fun to make and I just love how frugal they are too. I really wanna make a solid white one and a solid brown one. Those look really classy looking and honestly, you wouldn’t even have to dye them. For the brown ones, you can just buy the all natural brown filters! Woot!!

What color would you make your coffee filter wreath?

5 Tips to Hosting the Perfect Coffee and Cookie Swap Party

5 Tips to Hosting the Perfect Coffee and Cookie Party Swap! www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com

5 Tips to Hosting the Perfect Coffee and Cookie Swap

Do you find that with each busy Christmas season, it just gets harder and harder to spend time with your friends and family? I sure do! There’s an annual tradition that I have with my sister, nieces, and some of our cousins. We spend the evening out shopping and then eating an entire boat load of food at some yummy restaurant. It’s our thing, it’s just what we do every. single. year. I wanted to start another fun tradition this year – so we had our first annual Christmas Coffee and Cookie Swap party!

We had entirely too much fun. It was such a great time and it turned out so well, that I wanted to share my tips on hosting the perfect coffee and cookie swap party!

5 Tips to Hosting the Perfect Coffee and Cookie Party Swap! www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com

1. Keep Invitations Super Simple

Create a list of people you want to invite…whether it’s for the girls at work, your sisters, friends, extended family, or your church group. Just whatever you do, make sure that you invite someone that has a super cute baby! Cute babies are a MUST HAVE at any coffee party and cookie swap! Create your own invitations, buy some online, or even search for free printables for cookie exchanges on Pinterest…you’ll find lots of great ideas. OR you can keep it as simple as I did – and create a group message on Facebook to invite everyone.

2. Simple Party Foods

Serving something simple to eat is a good idea. Yes, people are there for the coffee and cookies – but depending on the time of day you’re having your party…people may be hungry. Our party was in the evening, so I made a large pot of broccoli cheddar soup and served it with french bread. Chili would be a fun option too, or finger sandwiches and party appetizers. No worries about dessert since there will be a large variety of cookies making their appearance at your party!

3. Perfect Cuppa Coffee Bar

Nothing goes better with a cookie, than coffee! Have your coffee bar prepared by the time everyone is ready to devour the cookies. I used Folgers Perfect Measures coffee varieties for people to choose from and we made a couple of different pots. Everyone made their own perfect cup of coffee. Folgers Perfect Measures are little round tabs that makes making your coffee a breeze. No more scooping and measuring…just drop in a few tabs to make your favorite pot!

Folgers-Coffee-and-Cookie-swap-party-perfect-measures-tabs

You can find the Folgers Perfect Measures in select cities, including Indianapolis and surrounding areas. Check for them at your local Kroger, Kmart, or Marsh! Make sure to grab this $1.50 off Folgers Perfect Measures coupon before you head to the store!!

For extra fun, I had prizes for those that made the best tasting coffee! Their prizes were containers of the new Folgers Perfect Measures coffee!!

4. Winner Winner, Cookie Dinner

A good idea is to place rows of each cookie on a large tray and then give each persons cookie a number. After everyone has sampled the cookies, have each guest anonymously “vote” for their favorite cookie by writing down the cookie number on a piece of paper and placing in a bowl or container. Whoever has the most votes is the Cookie Swap Winner!! Use something fun, like a cookie platter as a prize. TeAnna was the winner at our coffee and cookie swap with her chocolate covered peanut butter filled cookies. NOM!! Third cookie, over from the left in the photo.

(Cassie and Della were going in after the same cookie)

5 Tips to Hosting the Perfect Coffee and Cookie Party Swap! www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com

Cassie and Mikki are super duperly posing for this “heartwarming” cookie exchange moment. It was so funny, I had to share it. Don’t let this photo fool you….these two are a RIOT!

5. Swap Cookies…and Don’t Forget the Selfie

After the party is over, let everyone take extra cookies home. I had some extra cookie platters left over that everyone could take their swapped cookies home on. Sooo….Many….Cookies! Another great idea is to ask your guests to have their own cookie recipes handy in case other guests want to swap recipes. Ohh, and before everyone goes home…make sure to take that RIDICULOUS group selfie, or “ussie” whatever you wanna call it! Such a fun way to capture the memory!

5 Tips to Hosting the Perfect Coffee and Cookie Party Swap! www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com

Finally, our ridiculously fun group photo! At this point, we had consumed so much coffee and so many cookies.

4 Tips to Make Christmas Cozy This Year for Family + Give the Gift of Home

Tips to make Christmas cozy for family and friends this year! Simple and easy ways to make everyone feel at home during your holiday entertaining! www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com

What scents remind you of home, and the holidays? There are so many for me. Cinnamon is a big one because my mom, my sisters, and I used to make homemade ornaments each year and we’d pour cinnamon in the salt dough, like there was no tomorrow!

I’m blessed to live in the old farmhouse that I grew up in. Most folks, move away from home and only get to visit every once in awhile. Trying to find those feelings of home and comfort in a brand new place can be really hard…especially during the holidays.

When family comes, we should welcome them with things that remind them that they’re back home. Things they remember from their childhood. Scents can play SUCH a big role in that! Scents spark happy memories! Holiday scents are one of the tips I use below, to help make Christmas cozy for your family and friends this season!

4 Tips to Make Christmas Cozy This Year…

Tips to make Christmas cozy for family and friends this year! Simple and easy ways to make everyone feel at home during your holiday entertaining! www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com

1. Smell good holiday scents.

As soon as we walk through the door, something that smells good is usually the first thing we notice! I love it when someone comes through the door and says, “Oooohhh, what’s that smell?!?!”

With scents like Spiced Apple Crumble, Snowflake Vanilla Cookie, Emerald Woodland, and Berry Cool Winter you can’t go wrong. These are from the Life Scents Collection by Air Wick. Each is available in plugin refills, Freshmatic® Auto Spray Refills as well as candle and wax melts in select fragrances, you’re sure to find something that strikes a chord no matter your home décor.

2. Pretty holiday decor.

Place a few Christmas decorations on your front porch or a wintry wreath on the door! Let some Christmas decor be the first thing they see when they arrive. This instantly puts everyone in a festive mood!

3. Christmas music.

You know it!! Everyone loves a little Christmas music! I have a couple of playlists that are my favorite. Some are just instrumental and others are the oldie classics, like Bing Crosby!

4. Holiday traditional food.

Prepare some of your family tradition food favorites. Maybe it’s grandma’s banana pudding recipe that you only make once a year. Or that fudge pecan pie that your sister in law ooohs and aaaahs over every Christmas! Or the mulled cider recipe that your mom used to make every year!

Give the Gift of Home – Sometimes It’s the Sweetest Gift of All!

Air Wick wants everyone to feel like they’re home and they’ve created this “Give The Gift of Home” video for those who are missing home the most. It’s such a heartwarming video! This video brought tears to my eyes, literally! It’s just amazing to me, how much power there is in the scents that we associate with home.

In celebration of the new Life Scents Holiday Collection, Air Wick is donating $250,000 through a portion of their profits to benefit families in partnership with Habitat for Humanity International!

The new Life Scents Collection from Air Wick smell absolutely wonderful. Each is multi-layered so you get several scents in one. The new Life Scents Collection is also the perfect way to give someone the gift of Home this holiday! If they’re missing home, choose the scents that will remind them of home the most!

Chocolate Peppermint Truffles

It’s that sweet time of year. The time when the family gets together and makes yummy holiday treats! We spend hours in the kitchen, making our favorite family recipes. This year – I wanted to put a fun spin on one of our faves and I created these chocolate peppermint truffles!

Peppermint and chocolate just go together. Kinda like Lucy and Ethel. Don’tcha think?! I’m thinking Lucy is the peppermint (cause she’s a hot little number) and Ethel is the chocolate. Always consistent. Yeah.

These chocolate peppermint truffles are our new family favorite holiday treat! We've got the recipe at www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com Do you have any family traditions for the holidays? What fun family favorite recipes can you put a twist on? These chocolate peppermint truffles have been family approved, and devoured. They’re for sure a new treat tradition of ours for the holidays!

Since the holidays are the sweetest time for our family, my sister and I usually get together with a ginormous list of treats to create. We head to the grocery store, with lists in hand, and come home with bags and bags of goodies. You can’t plan on baking and treat makin’ without the time tested and ancestor approved baking products from The Hershey Company. They have stood the test of time. From the classic ingredients like Hershey’s Chocolate Chips and Hershey’s Cocoa  – even to the iconic Hershey’s Kisses Chocolates.

These chocolate peppermint truffles are our new family favorite holiday treat! We've got the recipe at www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com Hershey’s products help make our treat traditions for the holidays fun and delicious! Take our lead, and let them help you start new sweet traditions with your family this year! If you’re on social media, chat about your new traditions using #NewTraditions! We’d love to see your sweet posts and photos in the kitchen!

Chocolate Peppermint Truffles Ingredients:

  • 2 cups chocolate hazelnut spread
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 2 cups confectioners sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 12 oz. bag of Hershey’s Kisses Candy Cane Mint candies
  • 12 oz. bag of Hershey’s Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • crushed candy canes for dusting the tops of truffles (I used 3 candy canes)

Instructions:

These chocolate peppermint truffles are our new family favorite holiday treat! We've got the recipe at www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com

These chocolate peppermint truffles are our new family favorite holiday treat! We've got the recipe at www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com1.) In a large bowl and using your hands, combine chocolate hazelnut spread, confectioners sugar, butter, and vanilla. Combine well. You want the “dough” to be able to hold together well enough to roll into a ball without crumbling. If it’s too dry, add more hazelnut spread. If it’s too moist – add more confectioners sugar.

2.) Scoop out enough dough to roll into a ball (roughly about 1 to 1 1/2 ” in diameter) using your hands. Place ball into your palm, and with your finger or thumb, press down into the ball to create a “pocket” for the Hershey’s Kisses Candy Cane Mint candies to sit into.

These chocolate peppermint truffles are our new family favorite holiday treat! We've got the recipe at www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com3.) Then press the dough up around the candies, and roll into a ball again. Lay them on a wax or parchment paper lined baking sheet.

These chocolate peppermint truffles are our new family favorite holiday treat! We've got the recipe at www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com ** Tip: Have the Hershey’s Kisses Candy Cane Mint candies already opened and ready to go. It makes the process much easier. (wink)

These chocolate peppermint truffles are our new family favorite holiday treat! We've got the recipe at www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com4.) Melt the Hershey’s Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips according to the packages melting directions. Add shortening to the melted chocolate, and combine really well. You may need to stick back in the microwave for 15 seconds to finish melting. The shortening thins out the chocolate and adds a nice sheen to the finished product.

5.) Add candy canes to a zippered plastic bag and crush using a rolling pin. Place the candy cane dust into a shallow dish, for easy grabbing in a few minutes.

6.) Dip a truffle into the melted chocolate, using a fork. Roll it around to make sure the whole truffle is coated and then let the excess chocolate drip through the fork prongs. Use a butter knife to scoop the truffle off the fork onto another sheet of wax paper.

I have two baking sheets, so I just transfer them from one onto another. While the chocolate is still wet – sprinkle with candy cane dust. Repeat this process till all truffles are finished. Let dry on wax paper for a few hours or overnight. Yields approximately 2 and 1/2 dozen.

Storing Chocolate Peppermint Truffles:

You have a couple of options here. You can either leave out in an airtight container at room temperature or keep chilled in the refrigerator. I like them at room temp. but my husband likes them cold out of the fridge. The Hershey’s Kisses Candy Cane Mint candies stay hard when kept in the fridge.   Make sure to include all of these awesome Hershey products to your shopping list to create your yummy sweet traditions:

  • Hershey’s Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • Hershey’s Cocoa Powder
  • Hershey’s Kisses Milk Chocolate chocolates in red, green, and silver foils
  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Chips
  • Heath Milk Chocolate Toffee Bits
  • Hershey’s Kisses Candy Cane Mint candies
  • Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Chips
  • Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate Chips
  • Hershey’s Special Dark Cocoa Powder

Creepy Crawly Spider Kids Halloween Craft

I just posted this spooky bat toilet paper roll craft for kids earlier today! I can’t take credit for either that one or this cute spider kids Halloween craft. Both are craft projects the kiddo brought home from school. They’re both just so sweet that I had to share them.

Halloween is this weekend, so if you’re planning a Halloween party – these would be fun to make with the kids and you probably already have everything on hand!

Supplies:

  • Mesh kitchen scouring pad (they used gold metal ones)
  • 4 black pipe cleaners

DIY spider kids halloween craft. So easy, and cute! www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com

Instructions:

Super simple. Just wrap each pipe cleaner around a small section of the sponge, leaving a larger section of the sponge for the body. Twist each pipe cleaner underneath what would be the spiders neck. Make sure to leave an even amount of pipe cleaner on both sides so that the spider’s legs are even.

Once all the pipe cleaners are wrapped around the sponge spider, bend the spider legs a little so that it looks all creepy and crawly!

Spooky DIY Bat Toilet Paper Roll Craft

If you’re looking for some super duper EASY and cute Halloween ideas for the kids, you’ll love this one! I can’t take any credit at all for this one, though. The kiddo came home from school with this spooky bat toilet paper roll craft. His teacher said she found the idea in an old magazine years ago, along with this fun Spider Halloween kids craft.

Supplies:

  • Empty toilet paper roll
  • Black craft paint or marker
  • Black felt
  • Craft eyes
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Instructions:

1. Paint the toilet paper roll tube black.

2. While it’s drying, cut your felt black bat wings. You can use the photo above, of the backside of the bat, as a guide. The width of the wings (left to right) is about 7 1/2 inches. The length at the middle (the narrowest section) is 2 1/2 inches, and the widest part at the ends (point to point, top to bottom) is 5 inches.

3. After the toilet paper roll is dry, attach the felt wings with glue and let dry.

4. Last, glue the eyes on.

All done! It would be super cute to make several of these and hang them from your porch with string or to decorate at your Halloween party!!

Candy Corn Mason Jars | Fall or Halloween Craft

Nothing screams fall, like candy corn. Now, I have to admit…I’m not a huge fan of the real candy corn. Unless I pair it with peanuts. Then it kinda reminds me of a Payday candybar. Nom. However, these Candy Corn Mason Jars are just the sweetest, AND the easiest things ever to make!

They are perfect for making into a treat jar for teachers, neighbors or to serve at your Halloween or Thanksgiving party! It only takes a few supplies and a few minutes to make and the best part is, when you’re finished – you can remove the decorations and reuse the jars for something else!

Supplies:

  • Mason Jars
  • Orange Balloons
  • Yellow Balloons
  • White Balloons
  • Scissors

Instructions:

These DIY Candy Corn Mason Jars are the sweetest and easiest craft on the planet to make! Perfect treat jars for fall and Halloween! www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.comFirst wash and dry your jars so they are ready for serving.

Then cut off the long skinny part of each of the orange, yellow and white balloons.  Cut part of the other end of the balloon as well.  You want there to be a hole on each end of the balloon.

DIY Black Cat Pillow | Easy Primitive or Farmhouse Halloween Decor

When I think of Halloween I think of ghosts, goblins and black cats. Sometimes it’s hard to blend in holiday decor with your primive or farmhouse decor – but this DIY black cat pillow will fit in perfectly and he’s anything, but scary! It’s easy to make and even if you are a beginner to DIY projects, I promise you can do this.  The primitive style makes it not only super sweet, but made to not look exactly perfect.  Everyone is sure to compliment your not-so-spooky black cat pillow!

Supplies

1 pillow insert

1 black pillowcase (I bought mine at Hobby Lobby but this one is similar to the one I used)

2 button eyes – I chose to use an amber gold sparkly buttons for eyes.

1 button nose

1 metallic embroidery floss

Black thread

Hand needle

Scissors

Instructions:

Easy DIY Black Cat Pillow. This is the sweetest primitive or farmhouse decor Halloween craft, especially for beginners! www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com

This is really a simple project!  First, place your pillowcase on your pillow.

Find a spot for the eyes to go.  You will want to place these about a third of the way down your pillow.

Thread your needle with the black thread and sew the button on.  You will want to make sure that you go all the way through the pillow at least once when sewing the buttons on to pull the buttons into the pillow a little bit.  Sew the other eye on the same way.

Next you will sew your button nose the same way that you sewed your eyes on.

The whiskers are up next.  Thread your needle with the metallic embroidery floss.  Starting from just under the button nose, add some wispy whiskers.  There is really no wrong way to do this!  I found it is easiest to make one very long stitch to create the whisker.

Your pillow is complete!

Fun, pretty and perfectly primitive – this pillow is something that you would expect to find in a high end boutique! Everyone will be so impressed when you tell everyone you made it yourself.  Just get prepared for when your friends ask you to make them one as well!

Haunted Pumpkin Patch Lunch Ideas | Help Your Kids Be Unstoppable This Year

October 9, 2015 by Jenni 1,096 Comments

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Smucker’s through my participation in the Mom It Forward Blogger Network. However, all fun and yummy opinions are 100% my own, and honest, as always.

Haunted Pumpkin Patch Lunch

We’ve been talking lately about how the lunch bags that we pack for the kids, are SO boring. The same ol’ same ol’ – day in and day out. I get in a rut with lunch myself – so I guess I’ll just keep little man in a rut too. For shame. That’s where the idea for this Haunted Pumpkin Patch lunch idea began.

Okay, okayyyy. I know it’s wayyy more cute’sy than “haunted”. It’s hard to make food look scary!

Moving along now, and forgetting that this lunch is not that scary. {eye roll}

… … ………. (<– That’s me, moving along.)

I was inspired by this post – 8 Hacks That Will Make Your Kids Think You’re Supermom. Just stepping outside the boring lunch bag here, and BOOM. Kiddo and their lunch table neighbors will think I’m supermom!

I mean, HELLO!

A ghost banana?!

A pumpkin inspired Uncrustables sandwich?!

Ta-daaaaaaa!

Simple and fun haunted pumpkin patch lunch idea! www.sweetpenniesfromheaven.com

Here’s how I made it:

Let the Uncrustables Sandwich thaw a bit.

Cut black olives to create the eyes and mouth, and used a chunk of green bell pepper for the stem. Then use green bell pepper strips as the grass that the “pumpkin” is sitting in. If your kids aren’t fans of olives or green peppers, you can totally use raisins or chocolate chips – and cucumbers or any green veggie they like.

For the ghost banana, simply cut the banana in half and peel. Using the half with the pointed end, just push in 2 chocolate chips for the eyes and another for the mouth.

Then I piled in some carrots and peppers, and made a dipping ghost by pouring in a little ranch dressing. I put more chocolate chips (you could also use raisins or black olives) for the eyes and mouth of the ghost dip.

Decorate up with mallow pumpkins. You could also use fun things like candy spiders, gummy worms or anything creepy. Some of those candy eyes would be fun too! The sky is the limit when it comes to creating the cutest haunted pumpkin patch lunch! 🙂

I’m such a fan of Uncrustables! These little PB&J sandwiches are so good and are perfect for little man’s lunch bag. You just throw them in their lunch bag in the morning, and by lunchtime they’re thawed and ready to devour! They’re great for after school too, especially when the evenings are busy.

I love super convenient things like that. Hungry kids with no patience is not a good combination. Holy hungry meltdowns, Batman!

Some fun news about Uncrustables…

They’ve teamed up with Disney to help families be unstoppable this school year! Through this partnership, mom and dads across the country have shared tips for their on-the-go lifestyle.

Being so busy all the time, we tend to become less “unstoppable”. We just barely seem to scrape by, most days. That’s why I love to do small things, that require little effort, to make days more unstoppable for my kiddo!

Besides a fun lunch, another cute thing I love to do is add sweet lunch notes to his lunch bag, like these Disney lunch notes (<— click to download)! Just print a few pages, and keep them hidden in the kitchen and sneak one in when they’re not looking! They’re sooo sweet!

uncrustables-3

Uncrustables comes in a few different really awesome varieties. We really like the reduced sugar with whole wheat ones. They also have a chocolate flavored hazelnut spread Uncrustables. Shhhhhhh. I keep those hidden wayyyyy back in the back of the freezer. Just for me. Stop judging me. It’s not enough that I can’t make food look scary? Now I can’t even eat deliciousness, in hiding?!

You’re still judging me.

Stop it!

Anyhoo – visit Smuckers Uncrustables for flavor varieties and more information! Make sure to check them out on Facebook and Twitter too!

How does your family stay unstoppable?

Mummy Oreos Halloween Treats

We’re seriously getting into like, the most dangerous time of the year for me. As soon as fall comes around – so comes my love for cute treat makin’. Like — how stinkin’ cute are these mummy oreos?! It’s seriously just a downhill spiral for me, till after New Years, anyway. You feelin’ me? I mean guys, I get out. of. control.

{{{Cookies. Candy. Brownies. More cookies. Pie. Cake. Truffles. More cookies. Sigh.}}}

Fun Halloween treats always remind me of my grandma. She loved passing out popcorn balls to the trick-or-treaters every year. I have to admit that I love the memory more than the actual popcorn balls. I was never a fan of the annual popcorn ball.

Follow Sweet Pennies from Heaven’s board Fall Favorites on Pinterest.

Soooo, I was on Pinterest lastnight, and you should totally check out my Fall Favorites board above….BUT!

Oh. My. Word.

Holy pumpkin overload, Batman!

My feed was slap full of pumpkin recipes. I mean, I love pumpkin spice anything just as much as the next guy – but it was caaa-rayyyy-zeeee. Kinda makes me feel guilty that I just added this pumpkin pie baked oatmeal recipe to the world of everything pumpkin – but, oh well.

I’m sure that you guys that saw it already were thinking, “Great….more pumpkin. Ugh.”

Sorry!!!

So, now THIS mummy oreos recipe is so stinking fun for Halloween and couldn’t be any easier. Let the kiddos muck & gom in the kitchen with ya! They’re fun to make and I know that your kids, their friends and everyone else will “Ooohhh and ahhhhhh” over them! Cause they’re just SO dang cute!

Here’s what you need:

Ingredients & Supplies

  • White Candy Melts
  • Oreos
  • Candy Eyes
  • Parchment paper
  • White Frosting (I used Betty Crocker white frosting that came with the different decorating tips)*
  • Drawing tip*
  • Icing Bag*

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, melt the white candy melts according to the package instructions.
  2. Lay out a piece of parchment paper on your counter.  Parchment paper is an important supply!  Once the Oreos are covered with the white candy coating, they will not stick to the parchment paper.
  3. Once the candy is melted, dip an Oreo and cover completely.  Use a spoon or knife to help even out that coating.
  4. Add two candy eyes before the coating hardens.
  5. Using the drawing tip on your icing, create icing lines across the Oreo.
  6. Continue until your mummy has the desired effect.
  7. Let sit until slightly hardened.  Use a knife to trace around the cookie to trim off any excess icing.  Continue to let harden or place in the freezer for a few minutes until frosting is completely set.
