Are You Tailgating This Year? Here are 9 Tailgating Essentials!

October 23, 2014 by Jenni 45 Comments

tailgating essentials

I always associate tailgating with ballgames, food, good friends and fun! I use tailgating season as my excuse to eat anything and everything I want. And as MUCH of it as I want!! Are you tailgating this year? There are a few tailgating essentials that every tailgater needs….and you can find some great ideas here! That tailgating cooler is VERY cool

  1. SportBrella – This portable umbrella sets up in seconds and protects your entire family from wind, rain, sand and the blazing sun. Order it online and pick it up at Walmart.
  2. Tailgating Cooler – An ice chest, charcoal grill and all the utensils in one portable package. Shoulder strap or handles, you decide how to carry it, after you order it from Walmart.
  3. LED Lantern – Don’t you love the retro look, but with the safety and brightness of LED lighting? Order it now from Best Buy.
  4. BackPack Cooler Chair – All in one – your chair, your cooler, and your hands are free! Pick this up at JCPenney.
  5. Football Blanket – Since childhood, sitting on the bleachers was always better with one of these wool blankets over your legs. Online at Best Buy.
  6. Grill Light – It always gets dark before you know it. Clip this almost anywhere and the flexible neck lets you point it where you need it. Buy it at JCPenney.
  7. Weather Resistant Outdoor Speaker – Get the sound to everyone with this large speaker that can be placed horizontally or vertically and keep going for 6 hours. You can find this at Best Buy.
  8. The Picnic Pack – Enough for snack time for the whole team and the coaches. 16 Burgers and 16 Franks, all gourmet. Order it from Omaha Steaks and keep it in the freezer until you need them.
  9. Football Claw – Now there’s the perfect place to keep that Game Ball – on the wall! Order it now so its on hand when you need it, at The Container Store.

Moms Check In 1 Topic 5 moms

#MomsCheckIn

Three other moms and myself get together each week to talk about a different topic related to moms and kiddos. We often invite a co-host for the week because well, you know…..the more the merrier! Moms have a lot to offer when it comes to talking about dirty diapers and date night, so we’re always all ears! If you’re a mom who also has a blog, and you want to co-host with us one week, just fill out this form!

Okay, now on to our topic this week.
Football Games vs. Food!

All the football fans would know that  football season started yesterday. September marks the beginning of football and yesterday, Sept. 4th, the Packers played against the Seahawks. M’kay, I’m gonna be 100% honest here. I had NO idea. We don’t watch football, but I DO use football season as an excuse to eat and get together with family. They can watch football all they like, but you’ll find me somewhere, eating.

So what about you?
When football season begins are you more excited about

THE GAME…….OR THE FOOD?

“Yeah, football is FUN but I’m totally in it for the food. I don’t watch football but I use football season as an excuse to eat all the awesome gameday foods that you see floating all over Pinterest! My fave snack is this spicy southwest dip!! Oh, and Go Colts!!”

My favorite part of football season is the beautiful autumn weather but that wasn’t one of the choices! Between the game and the food, definitely the food. I love appetizers and lots of ‘em! I really enjoy sampling a variety of tastes. Bite-sized appetizers satisfy without filling you up too much…unless you keep sampling! I have fun creating them too. (You can find tons of football food and party ideas here!)

Bring on football! While I love the dips, BBQ and snacks it brings out – I actually love the game! On game day you can find me decked out in team colors and saying things like “ohhh come on!” or “Even I could have caught that!” (which is a lie….) or my favorite, “TOUCH DOWN!”

The food! I’m not much of a football fan to be honest, but I’ll watch with the family just because it’s something we do together to wrap up the weekend. Usually you can find a big pot of chili cooking in the crockpot and some veggies and dip on the kitchen table at our house. And I may or may not use football as an excuse to pretend I’m watching TV while dozing on the couch. Shhh….

Pulled Pork Sliders Recipe

Pulled Pork Sliders Recipe

Planning a tailgating party soon? This Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Sliders recipe is perfect for your football fans. It’s really easy to make and one that I know your family will enjoy just as much as mine does. I mean, pulled pork sliders and tailgating go hand in hand, right?!

This recipe is actually one that I got from eMeals. I use eMeals all the time! They save me so much time and money. When I found out that Dave Ramsey recommends it, I was very interested and now I know why! Dave is KING of teaching how to save money and become debt free. eMeals is definitely a tool to help with the grocery budget!

Long story short, eMeals is a meal planning subscription service. You sign up and they send you weekly meal plans and recipes, along with a full grocery list for your items. You can choose what store you shop at (I chose Walmart) and they’ll even send you prices along with your grocery list. It really cuts down on my grocery bill plus we’re always having something NEW and I never get stuck in a meal planning rut! I LOVE it!! I’m really good about sticking to my grocery list it sends me.

Okay, enough about all of that…you’re here for the recipe, right? Here it is:

Ingredients:

6 lb bone-in pork should roast, trimmed
2 teaspoons salt, 2 teaspoons pepper
18 oz bottle barbecue sauce
1/2 cup chicken broth
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 (12-count) packages slider buns
16 oz jar bread and butter pickles

Directions:

Sprinkle roast with salt and pepper.
Combine roast, barbecue sauce, broth and vinegar in a 5- to 7-quart slow cooker.
Cover and cook on Low 8 hours or until roast is very tender.
Remove pork to a cutting board; shred with 2 forks.
Return pork to slow cooker, and discard bones.
Toss pork to coat with sauce; serve on slider buns with pickles and enjoy!

If you decide to sign up for eMeals right now, you’ll get a BONUS Free Tailgating Menu Plan which is where this recipe came from! ENJOY!!
