Caramel Frappe Recipe – Tastes Like McDonald’s

January 14, 2013 by Jenni 2,319 Comments

I’m a frappe lover and I got tired of paying a fortune for my habit at McDonald’s. I still treat myself every once and again when we’re out but I much prefer to make them at home! If you prefer Mocha over Caramel, read my Mocha Frappe Recipe post!!

Caramel Frappe

Caramel Frappe Recipe

I initially started making the mocha frappes but every now and again I get bored and want something different like Caramel. I basically use the same recipe only switch out the mocha syrup for the caramel…easy peasy! Keep reading to find out how!!

You can hardly mess this recipe up! I mean, we’re talking about coffee, milk, caramel topping syrup, sugar, and ice right??!!  If you’re more of a “tear open a pouch” kind of person you can try the Mocafe Frappe Caramel Ice Blended Coffee from Amazon. It’s great for a quick fix!

HomeMade Caramel Frappe Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups Cold Coffee
2 Cups Milk
1/4 Cup Caramel Syrup (I used Hershey’s)
1/4 Cup Sugar
Redi-whip for the top if you prefer

Directions: Freeze the coffee in ice cube trays. Once frozen, blend everything until smooth and enjoy!! You don’t have to have a super awesome blender, I just use my cheapie Hamilton Beach Blender. I got a great deal on it at less than $30, and it does the job wonderfully!  Yes, really…that’s all there is to it!  Make sure to look below for variations!! This makes enough that you can share!

Variations:

1.  I don’t normally have whipped cream but I did this time! It’s not really necessary unless you just really want it or are serving it for friends or at a party.

2.  I’m not great at following recipes, so I don’t really follow the recipe to a T. That’s the great thing about this recipe though…it’s totally easy to make a little more or less sweet depending on your taste. The same with the thickness. You can thicken with milk or thin with more ice or coffee.

3.  You can make this a sugar free variety if you’d like. Just use Splenda instead of sugar and use sugar free syrup or flavoring. I’m not sure how many calories are in this recipe…I don’t think I’d want to know ;)!

5.  This tastes just as good if you add ice to the drink instead of blending. It’s more like a sweet iced coffee. Sometimes I do this when I don’t feel like dragging my blender out.

I’d love to know what you think.  After you’ve tried it out, please come back and let me know!!!
