Cookies and Cream Frappe Ingredients:

3 Ninja® Big Scoops (or 4 tablespoons) ground coffee
2 cups ice
1/2 cup coffee ice cream
4 chocolate sandwich cookies, plus 1 chopped for garnish
1/4 cup milk
whipped cream, for garnish

Directions:

Following the measurements provided, place the ground coffee into the brew basket.
Place the ice into a large plastic cup; set cup into place to brew in the Ninja Coffee Bar^® System.
Press the Specialty button. (this button brews a very strong 4 oz. of coffee)
When the brew is complete, combine coffee and ice with ice cream, cookies, and milk in a 24 oz. or larger blender.
Blend until smooth, about 25 seconds.
Divide between 2 glasses; top with whipped cream and chopped cookie.

Iced Coffee Hack + Easy Morning Routines

Are your mornings pretty brutal? Ours are at the first part of the new school year for a few weeks but then we kinda get our morning routines down pat. I’m gonna share some of our morning routines for the family, including my morning iced coffee hack using some of my favorite coffee from McCafé. Okay, so our morning routine looks something like this…

Alarm goes off.

Husband draggggs me out of bed, kicking and screaming like a bratty teenager.

I fix coffee…and hop on Facebook for a few minutes. This is my morning ME time.

I wake up the kiddo for school.

Feed the dogs, and take them out to potty.

Get kiddo ready, fed – and on the school bus.

Ready for round 2 of coffee, and then it’s time to get myself dressed and ready to work.

Easy Morning Routines + Iced Coffee Hack!

1. Have backpacks, coats, shoes and outfits laid out the night before. This is a must do at our house. Nothing worse than trying to locate shoes and clean socks 5 minutes before the bus runs!

2. Have breakfast ON the GO options for the kids. This is another must for us. I mean really, who has time to fix a 5-star breafkast on a weekday, at 7am?

3. Make a command center. Use this space for keeping a big family calendar with everyone’s extracurricular and sports activities so everyone knows when and where – and what day/time everything is. Check it daily! The perfect command center spot is on the side of your refrigerator!

4. Shower/baths the night before. This is a really big deal at our house. Everyone in our family takes showers that last an eternity, so no morning showers are allowed! Nope.

5. Get a free timer app. Search for free timer apps for your smartphone. These are perfect for many different things. I use mine for all kinds of things, but they’re really helpful in keeping track of time when you’re on a tight schedule!

6. Iced Coffee Hack! Usually when you think about making one, you have to brew the coffee and then you have to let it sit and cool for awhile before you can blend with the ice and other ingredients. Our hack that we use ALL the time is iced coffee cubes! Yep! I just brew really strong coffee, let it cool a bit and then pour into ice cube trays and freeze. After they’re frozen, I store them in a large plastic bag or bowl with a lid and keep in the freezer.

Then in the mornings, I just drop my coffee cubes in the blender along with some milk, sugar and some chocolate syrup and voila! I have a yummy iced coffee in less than 2 minutes! BOOM! That’s how it’s done, folks! I don’t really ever measure anything out. I don’t have time for that…haha. You can’t really go wrong with those ingredients. Pretty it up though, with some whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup.

Did you know that McCafé coffee is now available at Walmart?! I almost flipped when I found it and guys – ohh…it is SO good! The flavor is spot on. It’s bold, but not bitter – and very smooth! Just like we like it. They have several flavors to choose from so you have lots of options. You can get it in the premium bags and coffee pods so it’s perfect if you use a regular brewer or a single cup brewer. We actually use both! Our kitchen looks like a coffee house, seriously. I ain’t kiddin! Who does that?? Who in their normal, right mind has TWO coffee makers in their kitchen? P.S. Make sure to check out all of our yummy homemade frappe recipes on the blog!

You can find the McCafé coffee in the coffee aisle at Walmart. We found the coffee pods for single brewers on the bottom shelf and the premium bags of coffee about 4 shelves up. Peppermint Mocha Frappe

I promise I am not trying to rush things when I say I’m thinking about the coming holidays and things like candy canes. I recently picked up a peppermint mocha flavored coffee creamer and as I was drinking it I thought about how a frappe would be with this flavor! I picked up some extra ingredients and the perfect Peppermint Mocha Frappe was mine! Oh, and psst….have you seen all of our other frappe recipes?

Peppermint Mocha Frappe

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups Cold Coffee
2 Cups Milk
1/4 Cup Chocolate Syrup
1/3 Cup Sugar
4 Peppermint Patties
3 Peppermint Star-burst Candies
Blender or Frappe Maker

Instructions:

Like our other frappe recipes you’ll first want to pour the cold coffee into ice cube trays and let them freeze completely.

Add the frozen coffee and all the other ingredients to your blender or Frappe Maker.

Blend on high until all ingredients are crushed and smooth. Pour into a chilled glass and enjoy! This would be so good with a candy cane stir stick but candy canes haven’t hit the shelf here yet.

I regularly, but secretly, add it to the breakfast section of my menu plan. Since my blender has a permanent home on the counter, it’s just too easy not to enjoy this often!

Save Money on KCups with Reusable Keurig KCup Filters

Goodness knows I love my coffee maker but I sure didn’t love the cost that came with using KCups. If you’re an occasional coffee drinker, you can get by paying $15 to $20 for KCups that would last you for quite awhile. For me, it wouldn’t last long at all. I just drink too much and they’re not practical for me to buy.

I wasn’t about to get rid of my Keurig Single Cup Brewer (<– that’s the one I have) though. It’s my best friend! So, I opted for this Ekobrew Reusable KCup Filter on Amazon. It’s only $8 and I can use my own coffee and reuse the filter over and over again. I’ve used it daily (2-4 cups daily) for months and I love love love it! I can’t even begin to tell you how much money the reusable KCup filter has saved me.

Just doing a little calculation in my head here…

KCups on average cost around $0.50 per cup. If I drink 3 cups per day, that’s $1.50 per day. Multiply that by 30 days in a month and we’re talking about $45 a month for coffee. At HOME! I could understand if I were buying Starbucks 3x per day every day…but I’m just talking about a couple of cups in the morning and maybe one in the afternoon…at HOME! That’s just too expensive for me. I haven’t even taken into account the coffee that my husband drinks and he always drinks more than I do!

We go through a large canister of coffee in about a week and a half give or take. Our coffee costs about $6 a can. So say we buy 3 cans a month, even 4 cans a month — the cost would be $18-$24 a month vs. $45. We’re saving a MINIMUM of 50%. That’s a nice chunk. In a year’s time we’ve saved about $250-$300. Even if I buy my favorite bags of fresh ground coffee, I’m still saving a lot of money! All because I decided to use this $8 Ekobrew reusable kcup coffee filter!! Cha-Ching!

Keurig, My Knight in Shining Armor (My Keurig Review)

The perfect cup of coffee.

Ahhh – coffee. Is there anything better?! I am telling you, it was years before I was ever able to drink coffee. I loved the smell of it brewing but I didn’t like the taste of it. I always jokingly say that I didn’t reach adulthood until the age of 35 and that’s when I found my love for the sweet substance. I like mine with sweet cream, no sugar! How do you like yours?

Staples and Keurig offered to let me do a Keurig Review of the Keurig OfficePro B145 machine. I have heard about Keurig machines forever and was always jealous of my friends who had them. I liked the coffee maker that we already had but what I didn’t like about it was that in order to keep my coffee hot, I’d have to turn on the warmer. Then, once it got down to about a half a pot or less, the warmer would scorch the coffee. Down the drain it would go, such a waste! I didn’t really like microwaving my coffee either, because then it doesn’t taste as fresh.

It’s here! Yay!

So, when I was offered to do the Keurig review, I was beyond ecstatic! It was like 3 Christmas’s all wrapped up into one when the box arrived. I was happy to find my package included several different KCups to sample too! I tore open my box and plugged that baby in – and could NOT wait for my first cup of coffee. Now, a month later, I can still say that I cannot wait for my 1st cup each and every morning.

It’s so easy to use and every single cup is a FRESH cup! YUM! It holds quite a bit of water so you don’t have to fill the machine with water for every cup. The water reservoir holds about 48 oz. of water so that’s several cups of coffee in one fill. The heater keeps the water nice and hot so every cup is nice and steaming! Each cup of coffee brews in under 1 minute so it’s super fast too!

I loved most of the KCups they sent for me to sample. My favorite one overall was the Green Mountain Nantucket Blend! Some of the stronger or bold varieties, I let my husband use because he likes really strong coffee. I love that there are so many different varieties of KCups and even sample packs if you like a variety. They also make tea, cocoa and cider KCups…yum! Keep in mind that there are also refillable coffee filters for Keurig machines if you find that you like one certain brand of coffee or if the price of KCups don’t work with your grocery budget.

I am SO in love with my Keurig machine and I really wish I had bought one a long time ago. It is my knight in shining armor! 🙂 This one that I have, the Keurig OfficePro B145 is really made for small offices but it’s no bigger than the personal machines. Plus, it gets better reviews online than some of the other Keurig models. This one retails for $129 on the Staples site.
