I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Pull-Ups. I received samples for this review and a promotional item to thank me for participating.
Potty training can be one of the hardest things to do. We’re talking difficulty levels that can make you want to pull your hair out!!! Gahhh! It doesn’t have to be that hard though, if you put a few systems in place before you start. Keep in mind that this phrase is true: “They’ll do it when they’re good and ready!”. Below are 5 potty training tips that can help you out in the potty department.
1. Create a rewards system
Create a rewards system, whether it’s stickers or M&M’s….or both! When they potty, they get a sticker and an M&M or whatever they’re favorite little treat is. No potty, no sticker or treat. Go potty, you get a sticker and a treat. No potty, no sticker or treat. Got it? Good!
2. Role Play
Role Play with their favorite princess doll or super hero! When Jake from the Never Land Pirates or Queen Elsa go potty, they get a sticker and an M&M too! Mom and dad are great examples too. Let them see mommy or daddy go potty. Give mommy or daddy a sticker and an M&M too!
3. Find the right potty
Find the right potty. Kiddos may be afraid of the big people potty. If so, give them a little people potty! Then you can slowly transition to the big people potty when they’re ready. We don’t want intimidation of a big scary potty to keep them from getting stickers and M&Ms!
4. There’s an app for that!
Grab the Time to Potty app (on iPhone or Android)! This is a lifesaver!! It has the ultimate potty timer on it, which takes the guesswork out and helps train your kids to take regular potty breaks. This smart timer adjusts the time between potty breaks based on your child’s progress. The app is full of fun learning games for them too, to celebrate each potty break! You also get weekly reports showing your child’s progress.
5. Transition for nighttime and travel
If your child is making the transition from diapers to big kid undies, try Pull-Ups for travel and nighttime. These were an absolute lifesaver for us…especially at night and while traveling or being out and about running errands. Pull-Ups now has the Big Kid Academy!! The website offers all sorts of advice, from handling set backs to ways to help keep the kids AND the parents motivated. It’s an excellent resource for potty training!!
You can find som many great answers to questions like how to talk to day care providers about potty training, other solutions for night time, the best clothes to wear when potty training and more!
Pull-Ups give the tots a sense of being a “big” person and they give us parents some peace of mind at night and on long car trips, especially if there’s no restrooms in sight for miles!
